World Blood Donor Day - Save 3 Lives
World Blood Donor Day will take place on Sunday 14th June. The international event focuses on the importance of voluntary blood donation and encourages more people to become regular donors. Speaking at the launch of World Blood Donor Day at University of Limerick, Munster Prop Marcus Horan, believes that donating blood is one of the "greatest acts of kindness". "I'm proud to launch this campaign along with my teammates here today and urge people to play their part and give blood regularly".
The Irish Blood Transfusion Service is marking the day by hosting several donor awards ceremonies nationwide to thank their regular donors. They (IBTS) will also launch their summer campaign 'Save 3 Lives' as each blood donation you give can save up to three people.
The campaign will kick off on World Blood Donor Day and will comprise of TV, Outdoor, Online, Radio advertisements as well as on street promotion across the country.
Andy Kelly Chief Executive IBTS commented on the launch of the campaign. "We celebrate World Blood Donor Day to recognise the critical role of voluntary donors who through one donation can provide essential health care for up to 3 patients. It also reminds us that the availability of a consistent blood supply should never be taken for granted."
